“There is a wisdom of the head, and… a wisdom of the heart. ~Charles Dickens”
Placenta consumption through encapsulation has become a widely-used service for people during their postpartum period of recovery. It’s almost like an insurance policy. You don’t know if you’ll need it, but if you do, you sure are glad you have it!
Many of our doulas provide this service exclusively in the homes of our clients. The contracts and payments for this service are handled through Prairieland Birth and Family, through which our doulas are contracted to provide placenta encapsulation services for a seamless experience from pregnancy to parenthood!
A Postpartum Placenta Specialist will complete the encapsulation process over two, 2-hour visits that will be scheduled at a time that is convenient for you. Take advantage of her full training by asking about newborn care, breastfeeding, or any postpartum recovery questions you may have. She is there to serve and support you.
Your postpartum placenta specialist will bring all of the necessary equipment with her, causing you no inconvenience. When the process is complete, you will be given usage instructions and encouraged to follow up with any questions you may have. On average a placenta yields approximately 100-150 capsules.
- Hormonal balance

- Reduction in the likelihood of postpartum depression
Postpartum Placenta Specialists use a TCM-inspired method of preparation for the preparation of placentas as well as the making of tinctures.
Please contact Prairieland Birth and Family for more information about placenta services; your favorite Heartland Doula may be able to provide your placenta encapsulation services as well!
*Placenta capsules, tinctures, and other preparations are a nutritional supplement and there are no guarantees that they will prevent PPD or absolutely ensure healthy milk supply. Placenta remedies are excellent for healing post-birth, but cannot be used to reverse present or predisposed issues. Placenta capsules and remedies do not take the place of medical care. Please seek additional medical care for severe anemia, inadequate milk supply, postpartum depression, or anxiety.
